Cyril was a prolific artist producing both an enormous quantity and variety of work.

If he had been under lockdown I doubt he would have stopped even for meals or sleep.

From traditional landscapes, fine pencil drawings, colourful balloons, geometric patterns and fanciful landscapes he was constantly experimenting with ideas.

Never using just one medium he mixed all kinds of materials and methods together. The lockdown would have provided him even more time to try out new things.

Undoubtedly he would have created his own mask and been a colourful sight on the street if he ventured out.  He had a keen sense of humour and would have made the best of a difficult situation.

Best wishes and stay safe everyone!

Royal Academy Summer Exhibition

The Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy London, which was originally due to run from  9 June — 16 August, has been rescheduled for autumn 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The exact dates will be announced in due course.

They are however delighted to announce that the Royal Academy will reopen next week from 9th July. 'We believe galleries and museums should be places for inspiration, escape and, above all, community'.

Remembering a wonderful occasion when Cyril had a picture being exhibited.

In happier times Cyril enjoyed attending this event.

Cyril and Paisley

We are currently working with Cyril's designs looking at producing fabric etc. We came across these Paisley designs in our findings.

Paisley  is an ornamental textile design using the boteh (Persian: بته) or buta, a teardrop-shaped motif with a curved upper end. Paisley designs became very popular in the West in the 18th and 19th centuries.  More currently It is often seen on men's ties, waistcoats and scarves.

Although the pine cone or almond-like form is of Persian origin, and the textile designs cramming many of them into a rich pattern are originally Indian, the English name for the patterns derives from the town of Paisley, in the west of Scotland, a centre for textiles where paisley designs were produced.

VE Day!

This is Cyril's impression of the occasion showing crowds and flags as people were encouraged to 'get their colours'.  Quite an atmosphere which he wanted to capture in this busy little picture.

He liked making quick drawings and the style of this sketch is very evocative of the time.
